Strengthening JLS Connections with Polish Legal Professiondate: 2019-09-23

Elizabeth Zechenter had an opportunity to visit Poland recently to attend the International Human Rights meeting in Warsaw dealing, among others, with the issues related to the current challenges to the rule of law in CEE and elsewhere.  In addition to presenting her paper at the panel dealing with the rule of law, independence of the judiciary and the various uses of disciplinary porceedings, Elizabeth used the occasion to make several contacts for JLS.  Among others, she met with the heads of several Polish Bar Associations (Izby Adwokackie), with the representatives of other Eastern European Bar Associations and with the faculty of law of key Polish Universities to discuss various forms of cooperation between JLS and Polish legal groups.  Most parties expressed interest in further cooperation with JLS, various possibilities including, for example, exchange of attorneys, judicial visits, potential internships for students and young lawyers, and similar other initiatives.
