Polish-American Legal Clinic A Big Success!

Polish American Legal Clinic

We are pleased to announce that the first Polish American Legal Clinic, which took place on May 15, 2005 at the Polish Eagles Sports Club in Port Richmond, Philadelphia, was tremendously successful.

The event was sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Association, Young Lawyer’s Division and organized by Andrew A. Chirls, Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association and Emilia Golanska, Equal Justice Works Fellow, Philadelphia Legal Assistance. Chancellor Chirls personally greeted the community. He pointed out that events like this one are a part of the Philadelphia Bar Associations s efforts to make sure that all immigrant communities are well served by the legal system.

The incredible dedication and desire to help by the participants made it possible for 143 attendees to obtain legal consultations in the Polish language. Overall, more than 200 Poles attended the event to consult with and meet the participating attorneys, to obtain contact information and educational flyers in the Polish language.

The participating attorneys were:
Anna Paciorek, Esq., Nationalities Service Center
George R. Szymanski, Esq., Law Offices of George Szymanski
Yolanda K. Konopacka DeSipio, Esq., Curtin & Heefner, LLP
Pam R. Jenoff, Esq., Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP
Marian A. Kornilowicz, Esq., Cohen, Seglias, Pallas, Greenhall & Furman, PC
Mark A. Wisniewski, Esq., Dorian, Goldstein, Rochestie, Wisniewski & Orchinik, PC
Emilia Golanska, Esq. Equal Justice Works Fellow, Philadelphia Legal Assistance.

Their commitment to the immigrant community and willingness to volunteer their time is truly commendable. Majority of the participating attorneys are also members of the Jagiellonian Law Society, which is an organization of attorneys and judges primarily of Polish descent. Big thanks to President, Charles Szymanski and the society for their support as well.

In addition, we want to thank the following volunteers: Janina Golanska, Izabela Marszalek, Anna Broz and Alicja Plonska who sat at the information table during the event. These four women made it possible for all of the attendees to consult with the appropriate attorneys and/or to obtain information about each attorney for future contact.

Furthermore, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the Polish Eagles Sports Club and Prezes, Waldemar Ostopowicz for offering the hall free of charge; to Barbara Ilnicka from the Polish American Radio for graciously advertising the clinic free of charge; and to Michael Blichasz and Polish Social Services.

Thank you all.
